چکیده

Cataract, which is the opacity inside clear ocular lens of eye, result in scattering visible light as it passes via and consequently deterioration optical image. The aim present study was to investigate whether safranal, an active constituent Crocus sativus L. stigmas, has a protective effect on cataract rat's pups. animals were randomly divided into five groups, each consisted 7 rat Group I served normal control (vehicle administration). For testing induction, Groups II, III, IV administered single subcutaneous injection sodium selenite postpartum day 12. After intoxication, II selenite, III-IV received intraperitoneal safranal at doses 200, 300 mg/kg, respectively from 11th through 17th day, while group V receive only (300 mg/kg). On 30, pups examined for formation, lenses isolated further analysis. This found that caused significant (p < 0.05) formation. Through effects level lipid peroxidation (MDA) upregulated. Furthermore, antioxidant enzymes levels GSH NRF2 protein downregulated. In contrast, treatment with could significantly ameliorate formation oxidative damage lens. Moreover, safranl administration increased expressions Nrf2 level, addition reducing both MDA soluble proteins Taken together, prospective anti-cataract agent probably delays onset progression cataracts induced by selenite.

Protective Effect of Safranal against Gentamicin-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Rat

Gentamicin is an important aminoglycoside antibiotic. However its use is limited to serious and life threatening gram negative infections, because of its high nephrotoxicity potential in patients. There are reports that safranal, the active ingredient of saffron with antioxidant properties, exerts protective effect against ischemic injuries occurred by certain nephrotoxins including gentamicin....

Protective Effect of Safranal against Hexachlorobutadiene-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Rat

Background: Hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) is a potent nephrotoxin in rodents, which can cause degeneration, necrosis and regeneration in renal tubular epithelial cells. It has been shown that safranal, the active ingredient of saffron, has a protective effect against ischemic injuries. The aim of this study was to examine the protective effect of safranal against HCBD-induced nephrotoxicity in rat...

Hesperetin prevents selenite-induced cataract in rats

PURPOSE This study investigated the ability of hesperetin, a natural flavonoid, to prevent selenite-induced cataracts in a rat model. METHODS Animals were divided into four treatment groups: G1 (control group), G2 (hesperetin-treated group), G3 (selenite-induced cataract group), and G4 (hesperetin-treated selenite cataract group). Animals in the G1 and G3 groups were injected with vehicle alo...

Effect of Aqueous Extract of Embelica officinalis on Selenite Induced Cataract in Rats

Cataract is clouding of the eye lens that reduces the amount of incoming light and results in deteriorating vision. Blindness is thought to reach 75 million by 2020. Of these, unoperated cataract may be expected to account for at least 35 million. Thus, the burden of cataract is increasing remorselessly. Embelica officinalis is reported to have a very good antioxidant property and thus we hypot...
